Final Configuration of Rooms/Activities

Having the public facilities such as the exhibition and seminar rooms at the ground level - Having the private housing units at the higher levels and at last having the workshop at top level as it has the best light conditions.

Different approaches to the relation between grid and rooms.

Having the rooms offset from the grid- and keep the existing floor also around the room reaching the girders to support it

Having the room offset from the grid "floating" with structural support from new inserted structural elements

Having the room avoid the columns/offset from the columns - get structural support from the girders

Having the room avoiding the whole grid and not go orthogonal in-between the grid but do the opposite. 

Conclusion:

The offset of the room whether it only is from the columns or the whole grid (idea 2+3)- that would create light trace from around the room when you see them from underneath. 

The last solution has the advantage that the grid will be untouched and the grid will be an independent element and the rooms another element. 

The two solution I will work/investigate further is the last two as they have two very different approaches to the grid but the one with the offset around the columns uses the existing structure for structural support of the room and the other makes it possible to make the rooms stand out from the grid and vice versa and also opens up to the possibility of creating more diverse spaces.

Conclusion of investigation; final distribution of the activities

After the systematically investigation of the distribution of activities do to different parameters; light, access, exposure etc. 
I have been able to decide where to place the different activities within the building.
Having the exhibition room in the low part of the building and in the left side to make it easy to access from outside and as well be exposed to the public as you will be able to look inside the room from the courtyard.
Having this placement of the exhibition room will also mean that there will be less natural light coming into the room which opens up to the possibility of having independently artificial light due to the different exhibition. 

Having the housing unit on 3rd. - 5th. floor in the right side of the building makes it very private as there both won't be any circulation of intruders and the space won't be exposed to the public. 
And having the more common room; the seminar rooms and the kitchen below makes it both accessible for the artists as well as the visitors for the two users of the building to meet.

At last I have decided to place the workshop on the top to make it possible to open to the roof and get an evenly natural light inside the room to create a good working environment.
And as this possible will be the place the artist will be using the most there both get privacy and the view towards the sea.

A model to investigate the possibilities of intertwining different floors and how this structurally and spatially will affect the building

A 4.5 km long building complex - transformation of block 5 - an abandoned building
A structure consisting of colums in a grid which I would like to have as my basis for my transformation
A transformation which both enhance the architects idea of the buildings with some very small cellars and the very significant repetition both in the small and large scale but also a transformation which dissolve this and create more open spaces. 
On the program sheet this is shown; closed, small cellars using the existing grid of the building, then a more open space with single walls which will create spaces for individually workshops/ateliers and at last a very open room for exhibition. 

Phase III; Reprogramming

Programming the project - modeling

With inspiration from the existing building and the visited buildings in Berlin and a study case from phase I, I will be working with the two acts of transformation; infiltrating and intertwining.
I have been inspirited from the very strict organization of the existing building complex and want to work with this as the base for my development for a place for Berlin University of Arts.
I will be working with a very strict and homogenous grid as a base then develop different spaces by applying walls and customize it due to the different need of activities within the building.
This is an inspiration both from Redbull Music Acadamy having these very diverse and independent rooms within one building and also an inspiration from Neues National Galerie where the structure was very strict and change-able and diverse application was made.  And at last Berlin Holocaust Memorial also as an inspiration to the base of a grid but also how you can create very diverse room/spaces in between and go from having open/public spaces to more closed/private rooms etc.

Four different acts of transformation; 
Infiltrating (;From INFILTRATE: enter or gain access to (an organization, place, etc.) surreptitiously and gradually (of a liquid) permeate (something) by filtration).
Intertwining(;From INTERTWINE: to join or become joined, to be or become very closely involved with each other)
Parasiting (;an organism that lives  in or on another organism (its host) and benefits by deriving nutrients at the host's expense)

Brief:
The Berlin University of Arts have decided to expand its activities to Prora and inhabit part(-s) of the Prora Complex including having these facilities; 
A housing unit and work space for 12 artists 
Common spaces (such as a small library, 2 seminar rooms etc. – with publicly open or
partly open access)
In- and outdoor exhibition/performance spaces
Storage (materials, workshop(-s) and exhibition)
Potential connections to the exhibition spaces, research centre and archive of the ProraZentrum
